Eglinton Winton (Hilton New Orleans Riverside)
Description:
High safety standards in laboratory and pilot plant are of crucial importance and indispensable for developing new technologies in industries. The amount of material handled in laboratory units and pilot plants are relatively much smaller than those used in commercial plants. However, handling of new materials, lack of prior knowledge about potential reactions and interactions with other materials impose unknown risks while operating laboratory and pilot units at unfamiliar terrains of process conditions. Therefore, thorough analysis of potential hazards, risks and ways of mitigating these through safe design of equipment as well as adopting safe procedures for commissioning and operating the units are extremely important. This session will focus on best practices and cases studies encompassing safety challenges and risk mitigating procedures relevant to laboratory and pilot scale settings.
