Maite Sadaba Omana, E3 Contact Engineer, NOVA Chemicals; Steve Frezell, E3 Operations Coordinator, NOVA Chemicals; Kelly Pritchett, E-Series® Catalyst Technical Sales and Service Representative, Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP

This paper will discuss the operating discipline and trends associated with the Chevron Phillips Chemical E-Series® Catalyst in the E3 ethylene plant, jointly owned by NOVA Chemicals and The Dow Chemical Company. The E3 Unit operates Front-End acetylene hydrogenation reactors and has set an industry standard in reactor performance by using the superior E-Series® Catalyst technology, combined with a commitment to excellent operation. The catalyst has achieved an unprecedented 18 years of continuous run length without regeneration, while maintaining a consistently high ethylene selectivity. This has improved plant operability, reliability, safety and profitability.
