Batch distillation is an unsteady-state operation. It is because of this unsteady-state nature that batch distillation columns can be operated in multiple configurations, multiple operating modes, and can have multiple fractions or cuts. The new column configurations like the batch stripper and the middle vessel columns can circumvent the steady-state mass balance restrictions of continuous columns resulting in better purity and better yields.
Multibatch distillation systems (MultiBatchDS™) is a software package which captures the essence of these multiple configurations, multiple operating modes, and various fractions of batch distillation by providing the capability to simulate, design, optimize, and control such columns with multiple levels of models.
This talk presents few real-world case studies different operating companies, demonstrating the usefulness of new column configurations of batch distillation.
