Process models are extensively used for evaluating new plant designs and optimization of existing assets. In order to successfully use these models, they should be validated against pilot or industrial plant data. The validation of such models is not a trivial exercise due to their complexity and uncertainties in the data. A validation approach using equation oriented method will be discussed. The approach will be illustrated with examples from the author’s practical experience. The examples cover application of the suggested methods to highly heat integrated distillation system and industrial closed loop refrigeration process.
