In this work we present our research into a novel, multi-stage thermochemical biomass fractionation strategy. We demonstrate the ability of this process to deliver multiple streams of bio-oil which are better suited for further downstream catalytic upgrading than single-stage fast pyrolysis bio-oil. Process optimization techniques and feedstock development possibilities are also discussed.
