Valve trays have been developed since the 1960’s, and can perform with reduced entrainment and weeping, improved turndown and higher capacity, as compared to sieve trays.

Predicting the pressure drop of valve trays is an important design consideration. Numerous valve tray design parameters and shapes make the development of a generalized model particularly challenging. This presentation will focus on the status and application of existing valve tray pressure drop correlations from the literature.
