Distillation packings are widely used in industrial distillation columns, particularly for low-pressure-drop applications.  Distillation packings are generally classified as random packings, structured packings, and grids.

This paper presents an overview of the operation of packed distillation columns, including the hydraulic and mass transfer characteristics of packed columns. The influence of packing geometry on the performance of packed distillation columns will be discussed.

Photos and videos from various FRI tests will be shown.
