Selective conversion and efficient energy yields are critical parameters for development of new technology for converting lignocellulosic biomass to advanced biofuels.    Highly integrated processes are required to offset the cost of smaller manufacturing footprints associated with supply chains for low density biomass feedstocks, relative to crude oil.    This presentation will examine issues associated with advanced biofuels process development, from economic targets and constraints, to optimal means for study and scale-up from the bench to commercial scales.  Technology challenges associated with solid feedstocks, and catalytic conversions in aqueous environments will be addressed.
