Abstract:

For over forty years, the petrochemical industry has used Liquid-Liquid Extraction (LLE) for the Aromatics Recovery.  Even though Extractive Distillation (ED) has been developed since 1950s, due to the lack of know-how in two –liquid phase distillation & ED process simulation/modeling, the adoption of ED was not very widely used in the past until recent years.

AMT has very successfully demonstrated the ED technology in a Korean plant started up in 2013 and this paper is being co-authored by AMT and LG Chemicals to illustrate the improvements with the conversion from Liquid-Liquid Extraction to Extractive Distillation.
