Praxair's Process Safety Metric Program and Use of Large Data

It has been several years since API and CCPS released industry guidance on process safety performance metrics. Despite the large amount of data being collected; there has been little practical guidance and examples of how to collect, analyze, share, and use near hits process safety events (Tiers 3 and 4). This paper will describe how one of Praxair’s businesses developed and implemented a comprehensive process safety metrics program that includes how Tier 3 and 4 data is collected, analyzed, shared, and used to drive improvement. Examples of data processing and presentations will be shared along with the techniques and tools that drive this program.
