396369 Experimental Investigation of Oil Recovery By Hot Water Followed By Steam Flooding for Lower Fares Heavy Oil

In this study, a laboratory hot water and steam flooding tests were conducted. The tests incorporate five core samples from Lower Fares, unconsolidated sandstone. The hot water flood tests were conducted at 60 and 80 degrees Celsius. Both steam displacement and vertical steam displacement tests were conducted at 153 degrees Celsius. Several factors effecting oil recovery such as; injection pressure, injection rate, and injection temperature were investigated.

             The main objective of this work is to study the recovery of heavy oil for Lower Fares reservoir by hot water injections at various temperatures followed by steam injection. Numbers of runs wereconducted in horizontal and vertical cores to obtain analytical data. Results of this experiment is used to determine the optimum recovery method for heavy oil. Both core samples and fluid samples were tested at surface conditions. The results indicate an average cumulative oil recovery of 26.5% at 60°C, 44.7% at 80°C, and ultimately increase to 68% by horizontal steam displacement and 77.5% by vertical steam displacement (VSD) method.
