The use of a heat transfer fluid (hot oil) for process heating will require an adequately sized expansion tank to accommodate the expansion of the heat transfer fluid volume when it is heated to operating temperatures. However, expansion tanks serve additional purposes which can greatly enhance operational safety, equipment life, and the maintainability and life of the heat transfer fluid itself.  This presentation will outline the important functions of the expansion tank and how it plays a key role in supporting the effective start-up and operation of high temperature heating systems, so that these key features may be a part of your operating system.
