Pyrolysis of waste plastics provides an alternative, economically viable method for fuel and chemicals production. Generally mixed plastics contain polyvinyl chloride (PVC), hydrogen chloride and chlorinated hydrocarbons are also produced. Hydrogen chloride is corrosive, and chlorinated hydrocarbons in the fuel product needs to be removed otherwise the fuel and chemicals products cannot be salable. This paper summarized different dechlorination methods for chlorine control, including aqueous scrubbing, metal oxides adsorption, calcium hydroxide abating, and catalytic hydrodechlorination.
