The shale gas revolution in the United States has created both opportunity and concern. The notion that the US could achieve energy independence in a few years has created investment and major activity in the known shale regions. Along with this has come concern over the environment, particularly our waterways and water resources. As regulations come in to play to meet these concerns, technology developments have quickly emerged. Water reuse has become an interesting and sometimes hot topic. Technology providers have discovered that utilization of both existing and new water reuse technology platforms can meet or exceed current and proposed regulatory guidelines. Challenges exist for sure, but technology advancements are enabling reuse of water, which has proven to address environmental concerns, while achieving economical goals.
