38 Analysis of Offsite Impacts of High-Consequence Events I

Monday, April 29, 2013: 3:30 PM
Street Level 103A (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)
Description:
The use of quantitative risk assessment (QRA) as an integral part of Process Safety Management has been steadily increasing in the last several decades, initially with a focus toward onsite events at fixed locations. The analysis of high-consequence loss events with offsite impacts involves more unknowns and broader concerns, as these events could originate not only within a facility but also along transportation routes. This session invites original papers that discuss key factors in the practical evaluation of the effects of high-consequence loss events to persons and the environment in surrounding areas, including methodologies for making informed risk-based decisions in these situations.
