33 Challenges in Process Scale-Up, Part I

Monday, April 29, 2013: 2:00 PM
Bonham B (Grand Hyatt San Antonio)
Description:
Process scale-up is the critical issue in cost effective process development. This session is devoted to case studies of process scale-up from pilot to manufacturing scale. Special consideration will be given to industrial case studies that cover scale-up pitfalls and traps and suggest piloting approaches to derisk scale-up. The session will also cover selection of appropriate scaling parameters, scale factors vs. de-risking of direct designs, dimensional analysis and integrated piloting to derisk coupled variables. Selection of unit operations for ease of scale-up is yet another theme of this session.
