49 The Impact of Regulations, Codes and Standards On Process Safety
Tuesday, April 30, 2013: 8:00 AM
Street Level 103B (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center)
Description:
The number and extent of regulations, standards and codes that must be followed in order to comply with process safety management has significantly increased since the promulgation of the PSM Standard (OSHA’s 29 CFR 1910.119). The number of government agencies, quasi-government bodies, technical societies and professional associations that are involved in either regulating or producing codes and standards has also grown significantly. Since OSHA considers these codes and standards a part of RAGAGEP (Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices), in effect these standards are becoming part of the regulation adding to its volume.
Papers that address the impact of increasing regulation, its diversity across the process industries and the involvement of new players in its growth will be considered for this PPSS session. Papers that offer practical solutions for dealing with this emerging problem will be favorably considered.
