Abstract: -
During the initiation phase of Process Safety Management system at Reliance, Jamnagar with the help of external consultant it was felt that IT tool for effective implementation and monitoring is a must. Hence from the initiating phase itself, IT tools were developed which resulted in fast spread of process safety awareness, compliances and reporting. The IT tools were developed looking into the scale of operations, documentations, number of people involved.
The IT tools are way ahead of MS Office tools which are widely used in the industry for data compilation and analysis. The tools are in the form of internal websites with real time data tracking and interactive dashboards.
The paper presents an overview on the IT tools developed for PSM elements and how they have been effective in attaining progress in Process safety front. The key tools developed were for online incident reporting, action tracking, LFI generation, MOC, PSSR tracking, procedure access, PT documentation, Mechanical Integrity and Quality assurance compliances etc.
Also it discusses the major advantages realized on using IT tools viz. readily available Process data, spread of PSM knowledge to a wider base, up to date and auditable documentations, traceability of records, compliance monitoring, training tools.
The paper also presents the challenges that were faced during the implementation of these IT tools viz. user awareness, data usage, interpretation of data.
The paper intends to present how an effective usage of IT tool can help in achieving progress in PSM and reducing organizations operating risks.
Key words: - PSM Implementation, MOC tracking, IT tools
