Most chemical engineers encounter process simulators in their senior design class, although some Universities use them as early as Thermo II. When you start a job where you need to use a process simulator you discover that correctly using the tool is more complicated than just specifying numbers and pressing the calculate button. Unfortunately you don't realize you need to learn more...until you start making mistakes.

This presentation discusses common mistakes, misunderstandings, and oversights with use of simulators. Some best practices are also presented. The presentation draws upon more than a decade of experience providing technical support to users of process simulators.
