Radiant coils operate at severe conditions. They face high temperatures beyond 1100 °C, alternating reducing and oxidizing atmospheres, corrosion attacks, and have to provide excellent creep properties as well as minimizing the tendency of coke formation.
New insight on the interactions between protective scales and coke depositions allows S+C to draw conclusions on attack mechanisms. This puts us in a position to give recommendations on smart material selections to satisfy the demand for advanced material implementation. Each steam cracker is operated under different conditions and because of this there is always an individual solution required for optimum improvement. In order to achieve this, not only does the current situation of the cracker itself play an important role, but as well as or even more important, is to take into consideration what the operator actually wants to achieve.
Results of smart material selections on field applications will be exemplary presented.
