Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA)

Wednesday, April 4, 2012: 8:00 AM

Description:
LOPA is a simplified risk analysis methodology commonly used to evaluate process risk. Basic LOPA is an increasingly attractive risk assessment technique, with its conservative assumptions, ease of use and semi-quantitative results. Improvements and refinements to the original approach have occurred in recent years, permitting the technique to be applied on a broad scale with greater resolution. However, challenges still remain with integration of LOPA into PHA work, Revalidation cycles and Corporate Risk Programs. This session welcomes papers involving case studies in risk assessment, SIL determination, implementation/ application of LOPA in traditional and non-traditional industries, and LOPA’s path forward into the future.
