This presentation reviews the current situation on understanding and prediction of systems involving multiphase flow. Such systems are typified by hydrocarbon recovery systems where the flows are commonly gas-liquid, liquid-liquid and gas-liquid-liquid flows. The focus will be on the prediction of flow regime or flow pattern as a first step. Once the flow pattern is established, then phenomenological models can be used for the specific regime. The presentation will cover the principal regimes in both vertical and horizontal flows.
