Paper title: Reducing CO2 in the recycle gas from MDEA based tail gas treating units
Abstract: CO2 is an undesirable compound in a sulphur recovery unit. MDEA based tail gas treating units are designed to remove remaining H2S out of the tail gas and recycle it back to the front of the SRU. MDEA will also partially remove CO2 as well, however there are ways to minimize the amount of CO2 removal.
This paper focuses on the negative effects of CO2 on an SRU as well as operational changes (at no capital cost) which can made to increase the amount of CO2 “slip” though the absorber in an MDEA based tail gas treating unit.
