207732 Managing Data for Critical Indicators and Metrics

Tuesday, March 15, 2011
Grand Ballroom C/D (Hyatt Regency Chicago)
Tom L. Drake, The Drake Group/MESHsystems, Prosper, TX

The presentation will focus on the use of technology for managing Process Safety and for creating metrics and indicators. The data generated by a comprehensive PSM management system can be enormous and many important opportunities for generating beneficial metrics can be produced by these systems.

System requirements for producing and using lagging and leading critical indicators will he discussed. While many metrics can be produced, they must not be overly complex so producing them must be easy to do and understand. This is where automating the process is a primary consideration.

Defining the data management and metrics development process will be accomplished by presenting the evolution of PSM Systems to current technology. A discussion of a “Process Safety Critical Indicators” and “Process Safety Culture” course developed by the author for Texas A&M (TEEX) will be introduced.
