  • Helical straking is added to exhaust stacks to mitigate harmonic oscillations in conjunction with vortex shedding. A secondary aspect appears in the destabilization of airflow in its wake which may promote dispersion. This paper will examine the influence of straking on the airflow around a stack. These results will be used to infer the impact of straking on stack effluents. This will be accomplished via 3 dimensional computer fluid dynamic modeling.
