Particle Design: Formation and Processing (TWb)

#240 - Control of Particulate Processes (TWB12)
Advances in product design require tighter specifications for particle production across a wide range of industrial applications. Typical particle formation processes include crystallization, flame synthesis, granulation, precipitation, emulsion polymerization, coagulation and other particle assembly techniques. Advancements in sensor technology have, in many cases, enabled in-line monitoring of these processes. Papers are requested in the areas of 1) development of process control strategies with respect to key particle attributes and measurement thereof, and 2) control of the production process in the more classical sense, including PID, feedforward, and more advanced model-based control approaches. Both areas rely implicitly on measurement capability; and while the two have traditionally emanated from distinct technical communities, recent advances in measurement technology are bringing the groups together toward the more productive application of control to particulate processes. Papers that describe industrial or experimental applications are particularly encouraged.
