Recent studies on particle technology in China and some other Asian countries will be reviewed, covering particle formation and characterization, granular systems and bulk solids handing, and fluidization and fluid-particle systems. The formation of various kinds of particles, especially nanoparticles, has drawn much attention in recent years, but the characterization of particles at nano-scale becomes further complicated. In spite of many continuous efforts on granular systems and bulk solids handing, understanding the laws governing granular flows remains to be a challenge. Numerical simulation with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods has been widely used in fluidization and fluid-particle systems, but applications to real industrial systems are rare. New applications of fluidized beds were also highlighted. The review will outline the critical problems to be solved in the field of powder technology, and prospects in experiments, theory and computation will be discussed.
