Crosslinked monodispere polystyrene (CPS) particles were prepared through the normal emulsion method by adding crosslinker—divinylbenzene (DVB) into the reaction system after polystyrene (PS) particles grew to ~80% of their final size. When the crosslinker DVB used was less than 7Wt% based on the styrene, the prepared CPS particles were spherical and uniform and the size of the CPS particles can be predicted from the normal emulsion method. The glass transmission temperature (Tg) of the prepared CPS particles was higher than uncrosslinked PS particles and the more the crosslinker used, the higher the Tg of the CPS. The prepared CPS particles also had strong solvent resistance.
