Modular Chemical Process Intensification: Enabler for Gas Conversion

Process intensification and modular technologies (MCPI) are critical enabling technology areas in the area of gas conversion. While this has always been the case, the recent changes in the supply landscape for light gases (particularly in the US) and advances in technology have made potential for modular and intensified processes greater than ever. However, there have been very limited commercial deployments of MCPI. The AIChE-led Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment (RAPID) Manufacturing Institute is focused on fostering the development, demonstration, and commercial deployment of modular process intensification technology leading to dramatic reductions in energy consumption, capital investment, and operating cost. In this talk, the intrinsic hurdles in gas conversion technologies will be discussed, with a particular focus on how modular and intensified processes can be used to address these challenges. A brief overview of current RAPID projects related to gas conversion will also be included.
