Dry reforming of methane (DRM) was carried out in a packed bed dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactor. DBD plasma alone suffers from poor energy efficiency. Hence a combination of heterogeneous catalyst with plasma is necessary. During the present study, the discharge gap of 6 mm was filled with Ni/MO_Al2O3 (M= Ce, Mg) catalyst.[1] Ni/γ-Al2O3 is known to have superior activity for DRM reaction and syngas production. But only Ni/Al2O3 catalyst shows poor activity and fast deactivation due to coke formation. Hence CeO2 or MgO has been introduced as a promoter to suppress the coke formation. Catalysts were prepared by wet impregnation method and were characterized by PXRD, BET, TPD (NH3 and CO2), TGA to bring out structure-function correlations and to notify the active species generated. Typical observations indicated that MgO integrated catalyst improved the conversion of the reactants as well as the selectivity of the products. The best syngas ratio was observed with Ni/MgO_Al2O3 catalyst.
