Fuels and Petrochemicals Division (16) (PreRecorded+)
Process equipment used in the Fuels and Petrochemical industries is often exposed to aggressive environments. Conventional steels in these environments are subject to failure by crevice corrosion, pitting corrosion or stress corrosion cracking. Stainless steels and exotic corrosion resistant alloys are increasing in demand to reduce mechanical and chemical corrosion-induced failures. Unfortunately, the use of many of these alloys is cost prohibitive and does not offer the pressure rating of carbon steel. One solution, explosion cladding, has been proven to reduce capital cost while retaining the mechanical and corrosion properties of both the base metal and the cladded surface metal. During this presentation we’ll explain the science of explosion cladding and how to ensure a sound bond. We will share various applications in the Fuel and Petrochemical industry that leverage clad for cost savings, and how the welding of internals through direct attach allows for a superior and cost effective way to weld attachments and internals to pressure vessels.
