This keynote presentation discusses the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011 that occurred due to damage from the tsunami following the Great East Japan Earthquake. The accident led to an air-borne release of nuclear material causing contamination of a large portion of the lands, and necessitating evacuation of the population. U.S. involvement (National Laboratories, EPA, etc.) to provide expertise in remediation technologies are discussed. The current status of the decontamination effort will be presented.
