608957 Increasing Sodium Percarbonate Fenton like Process By Glutamic Acid Assisted Zero-Valent Iron for the Degradation of Methylene Blue

Zero valent iron (ZVI) catalyzed sodium percarbonate (SPC) Fenton like process assisted by glutamic acid (GA) for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) was evaluated in this study. Almost complete degradation of MB was observed within 40 min under optimum conditions when the molar ratios of ZVI/GA/SPC were 1/3/4 and the mineralization efficiency achieved was 42% within 3.5 hours. The detection of reactive oxygen species (ROSs) elucidated the significant generation of hydroxyl radicals and their key role in the degradation of MB. The experimental results and density functional calculations were found in good agreement thus, proving the more generation of ROSs in the ZVI/GA/SPC system for the efficient degradation of MB. The major intermediate products were identified and pathway mechanism was proposed based on mass spectrum analysis. Matrix effect of water constituents were examined to elucidate the efficiency of ZVI/GA/SPC system. In conclusion, actual wastewater results demonstrated significant potential of ZVI/GA/SPC system for the future aspirations.
