The international chemical engineering community has an annual award lecture, the P.V. Danckwerts Memorial Lecture, named to commemorate Peter V. Danckwerts for his contributions as a longstanding Executive Editor of Chemical Engineering Science, the second Shell Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Cambridge, a past President of the Institution of Chemical Engineers and the originator of some of the theoretical approaches which are central to chemical engineering (including residence time theory, which has applications in material flow accounting). The lecture is sponsored by Elsevier (publisher of Chemical Engineering Science), the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE), and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE).
