A novel Fe3O4/rGO/TiO2 photocatalyst was synthesized by a simple two-step process, an electrostatic self-assemble and hydrothermal method. The as prepared Fe3O4/rGO/TiO2 exhibited an enhanced photocatalytic activity for the degradation of Tetracycline Hydrochloride(TCH) in aqueous medium using sunlight. The reaction parameters, including the initial solution pH, reaction temperature, concentrations of TCH and H2O2, dosage of the catalyst, on the degradation rates of the TCH were systematically investigated. The photocatalyst was highly effective for the degradation of TCH in a wide pH range of 2.0–11.0. At optimal conditions, 97% degradation rate of TCH was achieved with 360min. A possible photocatalytic mechanism for TCH by Fe3O4/rGO/TiO2 and H2O2 was proposed based on the quenching tests and high efficiency liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) analysis. In addition, leaching test was also carried out and the result suggested that the leached iron from the catalyst was negligible and the catalyst still exhibited high photocatalytic activity after five reaction cycles, which demonstrated that the Fe3O4/rGO/TiO2 was reusable, excellent stable and highly effective.
