LiF crystals doped with Ce3+ and Mg were prepared using co-precipitation, using as solvent a mixture of ethanol and water in presence of Nonionic (PVP and Pluronic f-127) and cationic (CTAB) surfactants. The LiF crystals were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) obtaining average sizes of 100 nm, a single cubic crystalline phase was determined by XRD, the PL emission spectra shows two bands characteristics of Ce3+ and UV-Vis absorbance shows the presence of the rare-earth in the LiF crystals. The TL response to both X-ray and gamma from a Cs-137 source irradiation was studied.
