Reverse osmosis is a workhorse tool commonly leveraged in water treatment flowsheets to remove highly soluble salts. This paper will briefly review state of the art reverse osmosis membrane chemistry and the manufacturing process, and then discuss how RO spiral wound modules are employed in conjunction with suitable pre-treatment technologies to create very high quality water for a wide variety of municipal and industrial applications.
