Alpine East (Hilton Salt Lake City Center)
Description:
Capstone courses, e.g. conceptual process design and process safety, focus on integrating chemical engineering fundamentals, on creative development of solutions, critical analysis of results and life-long learning skills. The university unit operations laboratories can also partially fill this role if process safety is integrated into all laboratory activities. This workshop focuses on process safety in the laboratory activities. The unit operations laboratory can reinforce integration of process safety fundamentals into practical applications if process safety analysis is built into the laboratory activities. Emphasis will be on training, ownership, job safety analysis, risk assessment, excursion analysis and risk reduction. Participants will examine typical laboratory installations and apply process safety methods to address hazard identification, control and risk reduction.
