438438 Simulation of a Novel Low NOx Burner for Low Grade Coal

Coal combustion contributes to over 60% of the energy supply in China and low grade coal accounts for a large portion of the domestic coal produced. The massive consumption of coal poses severe PM, SOx and NOx emission issues. Facing the stringent “Near Zero Emission Standard” and economic constraints, the combustion and waste generation mechanisms of the low-grade coals must be fully understand, and new technologies should be developed for its clean and highly-efficient utilization technologies. Even though many low NOx burners have been developed during the past, but it is hard to apply them for low grade coals.

This paper will report the design and computational fluid dynamics simulation result of a novel low NOx burner for low grade coal. Its deployment in a commercial pulverized coal power plant can reduce the NOx generation by 30%.
