Legal Matters  - Intellectual Property in the Academic World

Publish or perish. Generate excitement for the idea that is emerging from the lab.  Present to colleagues at credible events. These are all realities of the academic expectations of innovation development. How do you balance the need for disclosure and the ability to protect the kernel of the idea that will become the intellectual property for the foundation of a new business ?  The balance is tricky as the rules and procedures for the USPTO work flows may conflict with the need to disclose and show the world progress against academic commitments.
