A Doppler Effect based flow meter was experimentally calibrated for solids flow for different particle sizes and different materials. A test stand was built for feeding solids through this flow meter. Tests were conducted with particles of different sizes. The flow meter signal output range was found to be small for large particles. But, the flow meter was found to be much more effective in utilizing the complete range when used with fine powders, with less signal variation. For particulate systems with a given PSD, this flow meter can be effective in observing the variations in mass flow rate of solids.
