SABIC’s Innovative Plastics Business constantly strives to engineer and commercialize new world class products that address demanding solutions for the marketplace.  This often requires that new one-of-a-kind processes are developed, constructed and placed into commercial production.

This paper will present examples of innovative technology that have been commercialized in the last 10 years.  Each case study will explore the transition from initial development, through piloting and engineering design and then final commercialization.  Each study will also include factors that influenced the decision making process, such as customer quality as well as operability, robustness, maintainability, or economy of scale.  The importance of documentation and its benefit during commissioning, start-up and plant run-in will also be discussed.  Finally, respective post-commercialization learning and its applicability to future development and design will be presented.
