Using a filament stretching rheometer and a novel gel spinning apparatus, we make connections between polymer extensional rheological parameters and fiber morphology and strength.  The novel gel spinning apparatus allows for direct measurement of draw ratio and crystallization time.  The filament stretching rheometer is equiped to perform constant strain rate/stress experiments with subsequent quenching.  The filament morphology will be examined using SAXS, SEM, and solid mechanical testing to determine the crystallinity, fibril orientation, and strength of the fiber as a function of processing conditions.
