Lignin is the largest nature source of renewable material with an aromatic skeleton. Converting lignin to low molecular weight aromatic and phenolic compounds (LMWPC), dicarboxylic acids (DCA), and quinones offers attractive opportunities to produce a range of high value products/chemicals.

In this presentation, we will report our current progress on characterization of several representative biorefinery lignins and investigating the relation between their structural properties and their conversion reactivity towards the value-added platform chemicals (e.g. LMWPC, DCA).
