With the depletion of fossil fuel resources and the need to reduce greenhouse gases emission, a high temperature electrolysis (HTE) unit has been proposed due to its impressive performance on multiple aspects, such as operation efficiency, economic values and environmental impacts. By coupling a coal power plant with the HTE unit, the emitted carbon dioxide was lowered. The produced syngas was used to generate liquid fuels through a following fischer-tropsch reactor. An Aspen Plus model has been developed to evaluate the potential performance of such process. Validation of the final products was accomplished by matching published full-scale plant data from the SASOL Arge reactors.
