An underground 44” pipe carry fresh water and surrounded by sand and 3m underground faces corrosion issues; leakages occur at 2011 and 2014. In 2011, CP system install (Cathodic Protection) after that in 2014, the problem return but much worst. A team assemble to investigate these issues. Utilizing some old cases and data provided by our plant, we found the root of the problem is the installation of the CP after the leakage happened which affect the electrochemistry behavior of the pipeline metal.
