Phase changing materials (PCM) find applications in thermal management. However, mass production of micro and nano capsules of PCM has been a challenge. Here, we present an easy and scalable method. We have developed interface active nanoplates by asymmetric modification of single layers of layered crystal materials. Nano encapsulation of PCM is realized with these nanoplate surfactants with very little energy input for emulsification. Further chemical reaction is carried out to convert the emulsions into core-shell structures. The resulted capsules are submicron in size with remarkable uniformity in size distribution.
