Ceramatec has been developing the use of non-thermal plasma to catalyze the reformation of natural gas and other hydrocarbons for several years.  The use of the plasma to catalyze reformation of natural gas, JP-8, S-8, NATO F-76, bio-gas, and other hydrocarbons has been proven in the laboratory and in field operations. The Ceramatec plasma catalyzed reformer has been operated successfully in partial oxidation, auto-thermal, and steam reforming modes.  The high voltage, low amperage plasma generated requires little power to operate.  Recently, Ceramatec was contracted to provide five (5) plasma reformers for an ammonia plant in South America.  Each reformer will produce ~ six (6) metric tons per day of hydrogen at about 50 psi.  The units will operate in an auto-thermal mode with either air, or oxygen enriched air, being used as the oxidant.  The proposed presentation will provide the advantages of the non-thermal plasma reformer, discuss past laboratory and field results, and describe the new work on the units being manufactured for ammonia production.
