338 Advancements in Hydrogen Production and Storage II

This session will cover hydrogen production and storage. In addition to the conventional hydrogen production methods of steam methane reforming and grid-powered electrolysis, a new suite of renewable production options is emerging. These include using renewable power directly for electrolysis, various biogas production options using gasification or pyrolysis processes or biomass fermentation with microorganisms, and newly developed photo-electrochemical and thermo-chemical processes including using microbial electrolysis cells as well as tailored molecules that can facilitate the splitting of water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen with lower energy requirements than conventional electrolysis. Recent advances in physical storage, chemical hydrides, metal hydrides, adsorbent materials and hybridized combinations of these technologies have led to the identification of a number of hydrogen storage systems, concepts and prototypes. System and materials development efforts using experimental and /or modeling and simulation towards the design, evaluation, and optimization of current or new alternative and under-development technologies for carrying out all of these operations are welcome in this session.
