This symposium will cover several aspects of the emission of mercury and other trace elements such as arsenic, selenium, phosphorus and cadmium from fuel and related control technologies. Topics will include, but not limited to: Mercury and other trace elements in fuels, Mercury and trace elements chemistry in flue gas, Trace element capture from syngas, Mercury chemistry in wet scrubbers, Measurement challenges, solutions and continuous emissions monitors (CEMS), Control technologies: development and status, Novel sorbents, Surface studies and reaction mechanisms for trace elements, Atomic-, meso- and macro-scale modeling trace element capture and control, Impact of technologies on coal by-product utilization, Catalysts for the oxidation of mercury, Mercury in the environment, Impacts of sulfur trioxide on capture of mercury, Status of regulations for mercury control, Impacts on utility operations, Trace element control in other industries such as incinerators and cement production, Emerging issues.
